Capricorn68,
The easiest way to see if your site is indexed by Google is to go to their site and do a search for "site:yoursite.com". That's a colon (:) after the word site and you would replace "yoursite" with your own domain that you want to see if it is indexed. If you get anything back on this search, then your site is indexed.
To see how your pages are ranking (ie how are they compared to everyone elses for a given keyword), you would use Traffic Travis and their Search Engine Tools feature. Depending on how much work you have done linking to your site, you may have to boost the Max Results up to 500 or 1000 to see your keyword, but Google get real finicky with the results when this is turned up that high. Something about the "automated" nature of the search. I think I usually leave mine to check the top 100, then check the top 500 or 1000 once a month to see if any other keywords are advancing.
Hope this helps!

After you verify your websites within Google Webmaster Tools and know the spiders are crawling, Go to Google Analytics, enter your domain names and sitemap locations.
You'll get a lot of very useful information on traffic stats, article popularity, bounce rates, time on site, etc. It's free and invaluable data.
