Can somebody tell me when will I know when my site has been indexed by Google as I don't want to add all my content at once until then, as advised.
The problem I have is when I type my domain name into Google there are hundreds of sites. How can I tell if I am even one of them?
Sorry if this sounds like a daft question.
Thanks for all your help.
Stephen

Google will find your site if you submit it to them through http://www.google.com/webmasters. Your site will then be added to their index.
To check if your site is currently included in Google's index, do a site: search for your site's URL. Type in "site:yourwebsite.com" (without the quotation marks) in Google and the sites with that URL will be displayed on the search results.

It can take a couple of days to get your site listed by Google but you could follow the steps on How to Get your Website Indexed to get your site indexed faster.

Hi,
I have yet to complete building my site but have been concentrating on getting the TT score to A+. After some initial hiccups have reached that point so now will get all my articles completed and published. If I enter my site into google search it comes up at top of the list on the first page but if I enter any of my keywords it is nowhere to be seen. I guess (and hope!!) that on completion and after building backlinks and further optomization it will appear when I enter SEO phrase in the search box. Is that the case and if so does that eventuality take very long?

It may take a few months for your site to rank if you're doing purely SEO. Just continue to add good content and develop backlinks while waiting :)

I typed in "site:johnsmith.com" (not the real name of the site) and got nothing
I typed in "http://johnsmith.com" and went straight to the site
the site has got links to it and has Google Analytics installed, and has been going for some time but it started life as http:www.johnsmith.com/blogwp but I got my Host to remove the "blogwp" and I re-input the new url successfully into G.A I also submitted it to Google webmaster tools- don't know if I should have submitted it first to the "Google addurl" link first??.
Can someone tell me if the site been indexed or not?

If you got nothing in your "site:" search, it means that none of your pages have been indexed
Google Analytics is not for getting your site indexed; it is for monitoring the statistics of your site. What you need to do is add your site to Google Webmaster Tools, verify it, and then submit your xml sitemap. Submitting your xml sitemap to Google will help get your pages indexed faster as well as help the Google bots discover pages on your site that they otherwise could miss.

Thanks clarafaie
Actually I added my site to Google webmaster tools months ago,it is verified and it comes up with Links to my site, crawl errors and a tick next to the word sitemap.xml. So why, when I type in site:http://johnsmith.com does nothing show up?
Another query: if I have added my site to Webmaster tools, do I still need to "addurl" to Goofgle at this link- http://www.google.com.au/addurl/, because I may have forgotten to do so originally when I set up my site?

Hi there
Has someone got the answer to the above questions? I just did a Rankchecker on my site (using MArket Samurai-which I had be4 joining Affilorama) and it says that half my keywords are indexed in Google, certain pages on my site have 100+ links in Google and therea rephrase positions in Yahoo and Bing. When I type in "site:my domain name" it doesnt show up?

Have you tried both possible versions of your site? You can type site:http://www.yoursite.com AND site:http://yoursite.com
It might be that you are indexed in Google with one version and not the other, or worse, both. You should use Google Webmaster Tools to tell Google which version you wish to be known by, use full URLs internally (e,g in your site navigation and internal linking), so that the "www" or the non-www isnot implied, but is explicit.

Hi Liz
It don't work either way. It says "Most likely cause:
•Some content or files on this webpage require a program that you don't have installed".
Could you try looking if it shows in your computer? Because I tried other people's sites that I know are indexed and they don't show up either!
My site url is: http://johnreason.com
thanks
