90,000 searches monthly but only 90 visitors/day?
I have a keyword for one of my websites that has ranked on page1 for a term that gets 90,000 searches per month. My ranking is at position #8, so still not above the fold. The mystery is that I only get about 90 visitors a day, and they are also coming from other keywords. Is it possible that I would need a Top5 ranking? I mean, it has 90,000 searches a month and is pretty targeted to my niche- wouldn't it be safe to assume that this keyword alone should bring in hundreds of visitors/day? Or do I really need to work for that Top5??
THANKS

Hi,
90 a day from just one keyword is really great if it is a targetted, buyer keyword. Divide the 90,000 by 30 (roughly) then multiply by 0.8 assuming that maybe 20% of searchers are clicking on PPC, that leaves you with 2,500 searchers per day choosing to click on the organic results, provided that all click on something.
So while 90 is awesome, moving your ranking up to the top 5 or why not shoot for top 3 and I would bank on something more like 500 per day.
Let us know how it goes!

Being at #8 is a great sign, but unless you are in the top 3 or 4 positions, don't expect to see a lot of traffic yet, even if 90,000 people are searching per month.
Position #8 on the page is so far buried within the page you'll be lucky to get 1% of the traffic. So imagine, 90,000 people per month, you get 1% = 900 per month = 30 per day. Plus you mentioned you get traffic from your other pages, so perhaps that is accurate.
But, imagine if you got to position 1 and got 20-50% of the available traffic? or even position 4 and got 10-15%. Then you are getting a lot of visitors.
Like I said, position 8 is great because you are almost there, but not a position where you should expect lots of traffic from yet.

Not true I have other ranks in positions 2 & 3 which get traffic. Haven't you ever surfed the web?LOL I don't only click on first rankings either. Does your experience validate your statement? Maybe with lower search volumes?

I had a website in the position 7th, and once I jumped to position #3, my traffic almost trippled.
So make sure you try to get there Rubanz.

I also can testify that those top 3 spots are where you want to be. The jump traffic jump from 3 to 1 is even amazing. Build those links! If you spent a few min a day using some of mark's methods for building links the results could amaze you. Also I have had pages go from page 15 to page 1 over night. Try updating the page and pinging it every so often. I like feedping.com

I have found that positions 3-5 give me the best traffic. You will get less, but what you get will convert better. Positions 1&2 do get most of the traffic. However, you will get a lot of bounces from people who are not really sure about what they are searching for. By the time they go to a little farther down, they know what they want and are more likely to buy.
This works especially well on reviews. BY the time they have read 3 or 4 reviews, they are ready to buy. I personally shoot for the number 3 or 4 spot myself.
