Renting Space On Websites: HELP!

Hi guys,

A very well known international retailer contacted me to place a link on one of my niche websites for a fee.

The offer is to place a banner ad on every page of my site. The product is completely unrelated to my niche. Any ideas about how much to ask for? Doing a link swap is out of the question for them because it would totally muddy their brand.

Based on my research of their back links (which are many), the vast majority of their links are from online affiliates, retailers, or naturally linking from people simply talking about the brand. It seems as though they are looking to diversify, but it's a bit of a mystery to me why they would have interest in my site for back links.

Rather, they might think there are potential buyers coming to my site and it's not just for the link. I've purchased links from PR3 sites that are not on the normal networks for dirt cheap, so, I'm wondering if I shouldn't be asking for a lot more than what would be expected from a tiny little site.

My little niche site is PR0, 10 pages, and gets about 80 uniques every day. Any ideas about what I should be asking for rental on a converting site, rather than just a link?

Thanks for your input ahead of time!

Hi Carl,

You might want to look at other websites that offer advertising and see how much they charge for ad space on their sites. As far as I know, you can ask for a higher advertising fee depending on your PR and daily traffic.

Hope that helps. Have a good day!

Figure out what those 80 uniques a day are worth to you. Personally, I would rather have them on my list then sending them away through an ad, unless that ad payed commission. So based on your results, you would then be able to calculate how much each visitor is worth to you and charge accordingly. On the other hand, if you're not making much through that site, then set a reasonable amount and be happy:)

esolutions has another good point. We don't really recommend putting ads on affiliate sites because these tend to take away your visitors from your site. I would be quicker to suggest ads on your site if your site is a blog-style website. You would find that most information/blog websites earn through ads. They are after readership most of the time, and not commissions.

Have a good day!

Hey,

There are some things to be checked before you make a decision, how much visitors do i get, what my conversion, how much do other sites with similar criteria charge.

There is really no standard pricing over ads on a website. As the web owner, you have all control over the pricing based upon certain factors like placement, size, as well as number of overall ads. If you have no idea on where to start and what to price for ad placement, you should look into directory sites for buy and sell ads and search for the site's niche. When you set a price for an ad, never set it too high or too low. Just gauge into the right amount based from the factors enumerated above.
