Google Adwords Conversion Code Questions
Hello,
With regards to the Adwords conversion code that Google gives you to place on your site to track conversions and sales, how does one best place this? Do you (a) place it on the landing page where the visitor first arrives, (b) on the thank you page they land on AFTER they enter their contact details, and (c) on the sales confirmation page after they have purchased your product, e.g. if the thank you page was an OTO sales video or something like that?
Also, with regards to landing pages being used with Google Adwords, should that landing page be uniquely used for Google Adwords ONLY, i.e. should you create a duplicate of your regular landing page used for other traffic sources to ONLY be used for your Google traffic, or can the Google Adwords conversion code you place on the pages distinguish between traffic that Google PPC sent there vs. traffic sent from SEO and other methods?
Finally, if the answer to the last question is that you should have a unique landing page for Google traffic, does this also apply to the entire process thereafter as mentioned in paragraph 1 above, i.e should all subsequent pages have versions used for Google ONLY?
Regards,
Asoka Selvarajah

Hey Asoka,
I'm not all that familiar with AdWords, using organic search primarily, but I found this from Google that might help you. Basically you stick the code between the <body> tags but preferably closer to the </body> tag.

Hope this helps,
Jason

Hi Asoka,
The conversion tracking code goes on the mechant's product thankyou page.
You will need to ask them to put it on the thankyou page.
Some merchants will do this but some won't.
Mark teaches that you should build a landing page for PPC but have that page linked to a main site with valuable content as well so it is part of the site itself. The landing page will not have the navigation menu links on it but it will have links at the bottom leading to the main site.
More info can be found here...

Not sure if that helps.

I'm using WP and have a thank you page I want to track conversions on. Can I simply place the code within the page? Does that place it between the body tags?
Cheers

Hi Paul,
Yes, you can place the code within the page and that will make the code between the body tags.
Hope that helps. Have a good day!

Hi Cecille,
Although I have already done that, Google are not recording the results within my Adwords account and I am getting sign-ups. Any suggestions?
Cheers

Sometimes it can take 3 days for AdWords Conversion Tracking tool to update your data. If it takes longer than that, you could report the issue to Google Adwords' support.
