Can Duplicate Articles Get You A Penalty/Ban From Google?
Hello there,
We want to advertise on adwords, and you said we need to have a lot of content so that our PPC stays low.
Now, if we use related articles on our own website, will Google ban us or will we get a penalty? We are planning to put 30 articles on our website, like you suggested, from free article websites.
Won't we get punished for having duplicate content?
Thanks in advance for your reply,
Maarten

What you're concerned with when using Adwords is keeping the quality score of your page up. From what I've seen, duplicate content doesn't lower your quality score. I've seen people using articles from article sites with no problems whatsoever. This doesn't mean that Google won't start getting stricter in future... but for now it looks like you'll be ok. It's a good way to test the market before you splash out on getting original content written.
Duplicate content is mostly a concern for people who are SEOing their site. If you're planning to do this... definitely consider getting some original content.
Hope that helps,
Mark

Hi Mark,
thanks for your reply, that helped a LOT. We're going to have our first go at Adwords this week, so we just wanted to make sure.
Thanks again,
Rudolf

Hi Rudolf,
I have the same plan of using a number of articles from various ezine sites and my plan is to give each one of them a paragraph of introduction whilst still keeping the content the same, this way it would give it a little freshness to the site.
Or simply mix in a couple of original Articles as well.

That is a good idea. There is a function in traffic travis (which comes free with affilorama) which allows you to test how much your article is different from the original article. I recommend you use this to ensure that your article shows up at least 30% different, and 50% if you can.
Most people say 25% is ok, but I say better safe than sorry.
Also adding in pictures with small captions and adding commentary at the end can help. (of course these articles can't be reworded as such, since you don't have private label rights, but commentary and introduction is ok).
Your other idea about throwing in some unique articles is good too.
Glad to see another Kiwi on the forum! What city are you in?
All the best,
Mark

Hi Mark,
Thanks for the Add on advice, I will definitely put those tips into play, The image one is good too and I will make sure I add proper search term names to the images so they get considered by the search engines.
I haven't tried out the Traffic Travis yet so I will make sure I will have a look at it.
I'm living in Melbourne, formely in Auckland and I have briefly met you once before at the WIS in 2006 Sydney
I wrote an introduction about myself in another post
