Adwords Tracking Conversions - Is There An Alternative Way?
Hi people,
currently we're very busy advertising with Google Adwords and our sales are only nearly compensating our costs. We desperately want to track our conversions but our affiliate manager does not want to insert the Google tracking code. This is because their affiliate system will be upgraded within the next month so that we can track our conversions.
However, we are advertising now, and we don't feel like waiting because who knows how long it will take. By cutting on adgroups that don't convert, we could potentially save lots of dollars a day, perhaps as much as $100-$400 a month! We feel that is how we can actually generate profit.
I've tried using the "folder/" trick, (the one that leads to a .php file and opens your affiliate url) and insert another url in this file so that it will first open a .html file with the Google conversion tracking code and then continue to with our affiliate url.
This doesn't seem to work well, or at least not properly. Appearently one sale is tracked and is supposedly from "members.wealthyaffiliates.com", we really have no clue how it managed to report that. We know there is a 24 hour delay but we have ran the code for three days now without result.
So does anyone know of another way to track our conversions? We're not really fond of running every adgroup on its own every day because it could take months of testing.
Thanks in advance for your time.
Regards, Maarten & Rudolf

If the affiliate program that you are promoting is a clickbank one, then you can use clickbank tracking ids. I use it and it is good:

If not, then another option is to have an optin squeeze page landing page. And track opt-ins per keyword. Ultimately this will make you more money anyway as you will be building a subscriber base (although can be more costly as it involves putting together a high quality newsletter sequence that will keep your subscribers opening their emails).
Or alternatively you could track outgoing clicks, so you know which keywords get better click thru rates to the merchant page.
all the best,
Mark

Thanks for your reply Mark!
How should we go about tracking the outgoing clicks? We've got AWstats with our hosting, but it doesn't tell us what keywords resulted in clickthroughs. We've also tried to use Adwords Analytics for statistics but when entering our url it displays an error that it couldn't retrieve our site. Don't I need to insert my Adwords tracking code into a page somewhere?
Thanks, Rudolf
