Tools to check for competing sites

I'm new to affiliate marketing and spending too much time checking how many competing sites there are for long tail keywords. Are there any tools that will show how many competing sites there are? At the moment I find a keyword with an amount of searches I require and the check each one in google with quotes to establish how many competing sites.
thanks

It is not a good idea to check your competition by typing in the keyword (with quotes) in Search Engines and writing down the number of competition. You could use the SEO Analysis feature of Traffic Travis (http://traffictravis.com) instead to do your keyword competition research. It shows the top 20 sites that are ranking for a keyword. It also gives important onpage and offpage SEO information on the top sites listed.

Thanks I allso check this with Traffic Travis but I start with looking at how many sites are competing for the keyword first. I don't think I can see this number in Traffic Travis or should I be able to see it?
Why is it not a good idea to use quotes in Google.
Thanks again

there are only 10 competing sites I care to pay attention to,,, the 10 on page 1.

it does not matter how many other sites are showing up for the keyword. Use the TT keyword analysis tool. I go with 4 star ratings, have yet to find one that was a five star. Make sure all the onpage seo is in place, and then take the number of links the top sites have, and double it. That is how many links I build to the page.
