Government Plans to Regulate Blogs
The Empire Strikes Back: FTC Plans to Regulate Blogs That Have Affiliate Relationships
'What has happened is that bloggers have blown the support columns out from underneath traditional media and the people who run the show don’t like that. The fact that some of us are able to survive by maintaining blogs must have come as an incredible shock to fat bastards in boardrooms across the land. That we are not “regulated” is unthinkable in the Soviet hive mind that governs the political economy of the United States.'

I can recommend his books and videos to anybody who wants to know what's really going on in the world.
Please don't fall for the swine flu scam either...

I wouldn't be too worried. I don't see how they can keep track of everything, especially when we're on the internets. I do agree with your big brother comment though, seems like governments want to do more and more.

"I wouldn't be too worried. I don't see how they can keep track of everything, especially when we're on the internets."
That statement is unsettling.
Why not ensure that we are in compliance with the law as much as possible rather than run risks of being issued with substantial monetary fines and jail time? Be proactive rather than reactive!

And that is exactly what they want... They want you to comply with everything they want when they create it which is imo b.s.

US Senator John McCain has introduced a bill which stipulates that the FCC "shall not propose, promulgate, or issue any regulations regarding the Internet or IP-enabled services." McCain said that the bill will "allow for continued innovation that will in turn create more high-paying jobs for the millions of Americans who are out of work or seeking new employment. Keeping businesses free from oppressive regulations is the best stimulus for the current economy"
So there's hope for American internet entrepreneurs in as far as FCC rulings are concerned.
The FTC is another matter, however, so I'll keep a weather eye on the horizon for that one.

Without being too cavalier about this steve I'd say its best to focus on the 'now' rather than watching the clouds and wondering if its going to rain. Ultimately if you're providing a service to your readers in some form then you shouldnt have anything to worry about. Just focus on delivering value!

FTC released short videos in response to some questions about endorsement guides and what it means to bloggers. You can check it out here:

Thanks Ampie. It seems that as long as you state that you get compensated or got that review copy for free, that you should be ok. If you promote good quality products, I dont see a problem. I have gotten free review products that I did not promote because I didnt see the value in it for my customers. as long as you focus on providing great value, Be willing to admit that you get paid for your time
