How do you deal with negativity?

hi guys,

Though I gained more insight about how to go about in IM after I joined Affilorama.

Dealing with people around you who's always throwing a wet blanket on you can make one feel depressed at times.

Get a proper job...what if you don't make it after 3 months....
what if you run out of money,,,,sounds familiar and ,all from people around you especially from one's parents.

How you guys deal with all this mental stress?adrian..mark..anyone help
Thinking of getting myself an evil eye blue beads from turkey to ward off all this negative energy :x

You've just gotta ignore it.

I found it hard when I started out, because I was in debt and had no income. If I had a dollar for every person who told me to get a job....

Even now, most of my friends don't really understand what I'm doing, or the amount of money that I intend on making.

Or you can use it to motivate you. Either way, just don't let them slow you down.

I am 32 years old, and my beloved mother still tell me to get a job... Although I am in business since 1999!

It's like this, many people don't get this "business idea" BUT when you talk to them about home business, it's even worse...

The only thing you can do is to PROOVE them that you are right! Get results, bring this money to the bank.

I'm same age as you but accomplished nothing all my life.the hardest thing is staying motivated doing this day after day without any certainty of earnings.

If one do it only for money, one can't stay more than 6 months in this biz when there's no results 8)

Negativity is a tough thing, It can indeed drag you down and make it hard to stay focused if you let it.

Stay away from the negative people. If it's your family, show them your plan and just as important... show them what you're doing everyday to follow your plan. Then when the first commission or Adsense check comes in, give it to them :wink:

Most people can't relate to the entrepreneurial mindset. It's easy for those that don’t to say "go get a real job" because that's all they know… you work, you get paid for your work, period. Understand that that's the mindset that they're coming from. Respect theirs and ask them to do the same for you but you must prove your point by working hard and getting that first affiliate paycheck to come in.

I believe that choosing a niche because you like it can be profitable since you can dominate easily.

However, in the offline world, all my businesses were about thing I wasn't passionate about. I did it because of the money, and it worked very well.

For example, I was a successful Pizzeria owner. People just loved my Pizzaz... And I DO NOT eat pizzas myself! (not recommended for a martial artist..)

My wife does though!

As long as your sites are relevant, link trades are still ok. I wouldn't go overboard with them though. Make sure you get plenty of 1 way links.

here are some suggestions-

discover the source of the negativity

much of it can be internally generated ie ill never succeed,im too(lazy,fat,ugly,unmotivated,poor).the key to this one is to develop a counter attack.one method is to form a game plan and commit it to paper..make the goals achievable and do some physical act to reach them each day.This method works by giving you concrete proof that you can achieve results and reinforces your belief in yourself to succeed.

if indeed the negative feedback is coming from the outside...particularly
family or close loved ones realize in an odd way they may be communicating care and concern for you.they dont want to see you get "hurt".one trick to try -turn the situation to your advantage
ie "gee mom you sound concerned about me thanks for caring"
this makes a win /win for both of you.and u may find"mom" alot more helpfull in the future.

if it is true you have not felt successfull in your life yet...today is the perfect time to start afresh....find some new TOOLS to put to work in your life.

do a search for personal coaching or life coaching....perhaps with a focus on business....you'll find great free information and many resources to get you started.

The sad part is that even if you get a day job "I work as a nurse" you will still get the negativity and lack of support.

Then one I get is, “when will you stop playing on the computer.” Well what can you do? The funny part is the people that I get the negativity from are not doing any thing more constructive that watching TV.

Napoleon Hill called this "susceptibility to negative influences", he claimed those who accumulate wealth guard themselves against this enemy. You must prepare your mind to resist it. Sometimes it arises through the well meant words or action's of someone close to us. Realize that by nature humans are human - easy way out, indifferent, gravitate to suggestion that harmonize withour own weaknesses and faults. The only way to resist is to realize we have "will power" and to know and recognise this weakness to guard against it when it rears its ugly head. Eternal vigilance is the price we have to pay to progress in life.

Nobody really understands what I am doing either, I try to explain what it is I'm doing but my mates just don't get it. I just end up telling them that I'm making money off selling other peoples products on the internet by making websites, lol, it's the simplest term I can put it in.

But what can I expect really, it took me about 3 months to fully understand what it is I'm doing, I can't expect them to know in just a few minutes. It gets really annoying at times as I can't talk about this stuff to my mates and family but I suppose that's whats so great about this site :)

How do you lot explain what it is you do to your friends and family?

I went out the other night and just told people I am a Pro Mini Golfer. Usually easier than explaining what I really do.

Most of my mates have some understanding of what I do, but don't really understand. Even my accountant had to scratch his head for a while before I showed him a few things.

Just about everyone initially thinks I'm the guy sending them emails about [word banned] etc, or running porn sites, has anyone else got that?
