High Unconfirmed Rate In GetResponse

Hi all,

Get Response shows that about 20% of my solo ad subscribers are unconfirmed.

Note: they had to confirm to get the free guide (the squeeze page had a 90% CTR which means they really want the guide (I would assume))

Is 20% unconfirmed normal for a solo ad?

Some people contacted me and said they didn't receive the confirmation message at all (they check junk folder and submitted email again).

Get Response said it's nothing on their end and must be a problem with the subscribers email service provider. They also said 20% is acceptable for unconfirmed. Seems high to me (i.e. out of 500 people who want it 100 are unconfirmed?)

What do you think?

Thanks
Darcy.

You'd be surprised at how many people do not realize they have to confirm, even when you mention it all over the place!

Thanks for the reply Vivian
Have you found the same rate with a hot solo ad?

The process for me is:
1. Click link in email to go to squeeze page
2. Click "get it now" button which pops up the optin form
3. Fill out name AND email then click "get it now" button
4. Shown a static thank you page which says to get the free guide you want so bad go to your email now and click confirm (I am clear about checking junk)

But 20% don't. After all of that effort they don't?

plus I have had people email me to say they have checked their junk folder and really want it but the confirmation email was never sent!

Seems bizarre. I'm hoping this is a known issue and can be fixed

An 80% confirmed rate is pretty darn good, actually Darcy.

Pretty. Darn. Good.

I normally see around 60% - 70% confirmations, with about 30% - 40% unconfirmed.

It's just the nature of the double opt-in. Some people will put in junk email addresses, some people will lose your confirmation email, some will get distracted along the way, and some are just not that committed :)

Great to hear Aletta. I don't like leaving people out in the cold but I guess I have to think bigger! ;)

Do you have a cheat sheet showing what is good and pretty darn good? :)
Seriously it would be great to have a one pager that shows what to expect for:

    CTR for:
solo ad,
    FB ad,
    google ad etc.
Conversion Rate on squeeze page or:
solo ad,
FB ad,
google ad etc.
EPC
Open Rate (email)
Unsubscribe rate (email)
Bounced rate? (email)
Sorry I don't understand manishshan

I just did another solo ad using LeadLinks (which capture the subcribers valid email from the solo ad owner and sends it to my email responder direcly without opt-in ( meaning 100% opt-in of valid addresses!)) and I still have a significant amount of people not confirming to get the gift they want.

They clicked once and all they have to do is click the link in the email to receive it... very low barrier to entry and still high unconfirmed (and people emailing me to say they didn't receive the confirmation email...

Why are you using double-opt ins in the first place? Especially with solo ads.

That is COLD traffic. They don't know you, so asking them to confirm is asking a lot.
It might be different if they were warmed up to you (like if they read a blog post or watched your YouTube video).

Regardless, there has been a lot of debate on using single vs double opt-ins and single trumps.

Most people argue that you will have a more responsive list with DOI.
But with single, you are STILL getting all those people PLUS people who could have become a loyal follower had you not asked for DOI.

In my opinion, you're losing subscribers by not using single opt-in.

You're also getting a lot of rubbish email addresses that aren't real people, but you have to pay for anyway, or clean out regularly. Different strokes for different folks, Tim ;)

P.S: I just watched and really liked this video of yours about hungry buyers. Nailed it.

But with solo ads, you're paying for clicks not opt-ins.
And you can always clean out your list of fake emails.

Also something to be said of finding quality vendors with good lists so you can avoid those issues.

P.S. Thanks Aletta, glad you liked the video.

Thanks Tim. I live in Canada and single opt-in is against the law so I'm playing above board from the start ;)
