Backlinks Stopped Increasing

I have been working on my site's SEO since few months now... I did directory submissions, blog commenting, social bookmarkings etc and there was good number of backlinks (say 20-30) added everyday... but now it has suddenly stopped at 460. I'm working just like I used to... but backlinks are stuck with the same position...

Any suggestion on this???

Maybe it's the tool you're using to see the backlinks? Some free tools have a limit.

Or it could be something worse like search engines discounting your links?

Is it time to earn links now instead of create them artificially?

Maybe someone else could help you better sorry. :-p

I don think any prob with the tool I use.. coz I've checked been checking 4 to 5 different tools... and same story in all...

Actually first it had stopped fully for few days.. later it was increasing just by one or two and again going down and again increasing and so on... But cant see improvement like I used to see earlier..

what do u mean by search engines discounting my links?

Hi,

Yes what I mean by that is the search engines might be treating those links as "junk" links, i.e., they aren't as valuable or powerful anymore, and won't help you very much.

Another thing, in order to find those backlinks the page they are on needs to be indexed right? So what if the SEs are discounting those pages as being not very good, and therefore your links are not being crawled/counted.

I'm no SEO expert (not anymore) but are you focusing on quality links NOT quantity? Depending on your niche you can get rankings with very little backlinks now, no need for hundreds, as long as you focus on the quality of the links. It's tough to get a good link yes, but you don't need many of them.

Are you diversifying your link profile (using lots of different anchor-texts)?

Oh okay... It seems I have an idea what has happened... Atleast I have a guess...

I'm trying to get quality link.. initially I went for some low PR sites as I was bit desperate to increase links... But I have not purchased any paid link services...

Also, I use only one anchor text per link(Title specified in the meta tag)... or may be two( slightly altered) not more than that...

yeah it needs to look natural, if you are getting 100s of links and they look all the same (same anchor texts) that throws up red flags for google. 2 anchor texts is not good enough you need more variations.

Not everyone will link to a site with the same anchor-text, they will use a lot of different ways because well, people are different lol.

-they will use the sites full URL
-the sites brand name
-the sites short name (like a nick name)
-they use dumb ones like: "click here" or "go to the site", etc.
-maybe even misspelled ones too
-ones with www or without
-they link to inner pages too not just homepages
-they do all kinds of weird things lol

So what you need to do is emulate that, make it look like real people are linking to you.
All this fake stuff is why I don't like this kind of SEO anymore I focus on creating content and 'earning' real links, but if you like it and it works for you I wish you the best! :-)

Yes, I took your advice.. and concentrating on the content and spend much of my time in offline content work... infact that is the reason it took me so long to reply... thanks a lot for your suggestion...

A sudden increase in back links could be deemed dangerous for SEO and hence it is important that you build your links in a phased manner.

Is it? are you saying if there is a sudden increase, it might be considered as spamming?

Nothing should be mutational in its change. Such cases evoke suspicion too.

Recently I got a list social bookmarking sites of around 100 site with quite good PR... where I submitted my site URL and around 40-50 were approved the next day... now I feel that might be the reason for the stagnation of the growth of backlink...

The ways you are using to increase backlinks is not a good SEO practice now a days. Don't do such things and start doing forum discussions, blogging , social media for your website. This will increase your website authority on search engines. Make a blog, add fresh content into it according to user's interest and update it regularly. Share it on social media and other discussion communities.

Google want natural backlinks..natural meaning you have to make it appear that "real" people are linking to your site, and this has something to do with the frequency of the links. Like if you make 100 backlinks in a day, using the same keyword, or limiting it to two or three, then this will be a red flag to Google, and may demerit your site.

Create high quality content. Write unique articles related with your sites, then post them on hot blogs or Press release sites. Content marketing are good enough to build natural high quality inbound links. What's more, unique content improves your brand visibility and trust in search engines. And if you want , you can also buy links from sites like SEOclerks, listingdock etc.
